Through Your Lens: What Makes Riverwoods Unique?
To celebrate our country’s 250th anniversary, the Village of Riverwoods is having its first-ever photo contest. The United States is made up of many unique communities—what makes Riverwoods an exceptional place to live?
Show us your perspective by entering a photo that captures what makes Riverwoods special. Whether you submit a favorite photo you’ve already taken or head out to capture the perfect shot, we want to see your vision of the place we are proud to call home.
Who
Riverwoods Residents* of all ages. Winners will be chosen for each of the following age groups resulting in a view of Riverwoods across generations.
Age Groups:
- 5 - 9
- 10 - 14
- 15 - 19
- 20 - 59
- 60+
*Submissions from contestants who attend school or work in Riverwoods will also be accepted.
What
The subject of the photo can be anything that answers the question in the photographer’s view – What makes Riverwoods unique?
- Winners will be chosen for each age group in the following categories:
- Hometown Pride: Photos that capture the spirit for Riverwoods.
- Hidden Gems: Lesser known places, fleeting moments, unexpected views, etc.
- Historic Charm: Historic buildings, landmarks, or moments that reflect Riverwoods past.
- Nature at its Best: Wildlife, water, trees, etc.
- Each participant may submit up to 3 photos.
- Entries must be original and created by the submitting participant.
- Please note: one photo may cover more than one categories.
Where:
Photos must be taken within the Riverwoods boundaries.
When:
Photo submissions will be accepted from April 1 – May 31, 2026. Winners will be announced on June 8, 2026.
How:
To enter submit a JPEG/PNG high resolution file by completing the below form or emailing dlitwin [at] riverwoods.gov (dlitwin[at]riverwoods[dot]gov).
Winners:
The Riverwoods Communications team will select the winners. Entries will be evaluated on connection to the theme, creativity & originality.
The winners will be recognized and their photos displayed at the June 16 Board of Trustees meeting. The winning photos will be posted on the Village website, newsletter and social media.
Limitations:
Due to consent requirements, photos that contain people will not be accepted.
Photos should reflect the spirit of our community and be tasteful and appropriate for viewers of all ages. Photos that are inappropriate or do not meet these requirements will be disqualified.
Rights & Permissions:
By entering the Through Your Lens: What Makes Riverwoods Unique contest, participants grant the Village of Riverwoods permission to use their full name (first name and age for children under the age of 18) and submitted digital photos on the Village website, social media accounts and e-newsletter. Permission is also granted to the Village for photos to be printed for the Village Board meeting and to be included in Village mailings.
Participants retain copyright but agree to non-exclusive use to the Village of Riverwoods for promotional purposes. The Village of Riverwoods takes no responsibility for ensuring that the images are not downloaded or used without permission by someone else.
