Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4 Permit)

Riverwoods is a permittee in the MS4 program, regulated by the ILEPA, to minimize pollution of surface waters.

MS4 permittees must develop a stormwater management program comprised of measurable goals for the following six minimum control measures.

  1. Public education and outreach on stormwater impacts
  2. Public involvement and participation
  3. Illicit discharge detection and elimination
  4. Construction site stormwater runoff control
  5. Post-construction stormwater management in new development and redevelopment
  6. Pollution prevention/good housekeeping for municipal operations

The Lake County Stormwater Management Commission (SMC) is established as a countywide Qualifying Local Program (QLP) and performs some of the activities required to meet the minimum control measures.
