Riverwoods Government

The Village of Riverwoods is managed by elected officials, volunteers, and a small paid staff. Having volunteers commit their time, expertise, and energy helps to keep costs low and encourages participation by residents who truly care about this community.

Mayor

The Mayor is nominated by the Riverwoods Caucus committee and is elected to a four-year term. The Mayor acts as the executive branch of Village government and is responsible for the administration of village operations. The Mayor is also president of the Board of Trustees. As president, the Mayor presides over all board meetings and can cast tie-breaking votes. Individuals who serve as Mayor receive a stipend as compensation.

Village Clerk

The Village Clerk is an appointed official responsible for keeping the corporate seal and all records belonging to the village. In addition, the Clerk is responsible for publishing the Treasurer’s Annual Report and for duties assigned by State or village statute. Persons serving as village clerk receive a salary as compensation.

Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees is the legislative arm of village government and is made up of six residents serving staggered, four-year terms. The Mayor is the President of the Village Board.  Each trustee chairs committees on key areas of Village responsibility.

Residents Wishing to Address the Board

Each Board meeting has time set aside for residents who wish to bring matters before the Board to speak.  You can also ask to have matters set on the agenda by contacting the Mayor’s office at least 5 days before the meeting at which you wish to appear.
