The Village of Riverwoods, in partnership with Hefty, SWALCO and Lakeshore Recycling Systems (LRS), has launched the Hefty ReNew™ program. This program is designed to complement current recycling efforts by establishing a way to collect otherwise hard-to-recycle plastics curbside, convert them into useful products and keep them out of landfills. These plastics include foam, food storage bags, candy/bar wrappers, chip bags, bubble wrap, packing peanuts, and more. The program information referenced here is for Village of Riverwoods residents within the corporate limits that have LRS as their waste and recycling hauler.
To participate, simply:
- Starter kits are available at Village Hall while supplies last. You can also get a free starter kit by clicking here or purchase a Hefty ReNew bag from Jewel, Menards, Ace Hardware, or another participating retailer listed here.
- Place the items identified in the Guide of What's Accepted in the bag.
- Close the bag and put the bag in your recycling cart.
- Leave your cart at the curb for collection on your service day.
Residents can choose from a Pay Per Bag/Sticker system or enroll in the subscription program. You can purchase the stickers or enroll in a subscription by contacting LRS via phone or email request at 844-633-3577 or Service [at] LRSrecycles.com (Service[at]LRSrecycles[dot]com). Yard waste is serviced on Wednesday only, and the season is from April 1 to December 15. Yard Waste containers must be placed street-side by 7:00 a.m. and will be collected from each resident by 7:00 p.m. Yard Waste pickup requires a 24-hour notice.
What is Considered Yard Waste?
Yard waste, also known as landscape waste, means all accumulations of grass or shrubbery cuttings, leaves, tree limbs, aquatic weeds, and other material accumulated as the result of the care of lawns, shrubby, vines, and trees.
