Police Officers Save a Life Performing CPR

On Thursday, November 17, 2022, at 2:15 pm, Riverwoods Police Officer Joe Petersen responded to the area of Lake Cook Rd and Portwine Rd for an assist ambulance call. A passenger in a vehicle had reportedly become unresponsive and the driver had pulled over to the side of the road and begun CPR. Once on scene, Officer Peterson (pictured right) took over CPR life-saving measures. He was later assisted by Deerfield Officer Barry Schwartz, who attached and utilized an AED to administer a diagnosed shock, then relieved Officer Petersen in administering CPR. Lincolnshire/Riverwoods FD paramedics arrived on the scene and eventually transported the subject, who now was breathing and had a pulse, to Glenbrook Hospital.

Riverwoods Village Trustee Michael Haber (Police Department) expressed his congratulations to Officer Petersen on his efforts; "It is a testament to the training and dedication of the officers of the Village."

Riverwoods Mayor Kristine Ford also congratulated Officer Petersen;  "Outstanding Joe!!!!  Nothing better than saving a life."
