Changes and Improvements to Utility Billing

The Village has upgraded to a new utility billing system, having made the following changes and improvements:

  • Your utility bill has a new look: containing additional information, including a graph of recent usage.
  • Paying online is now easier: you no longer need to create an account.  Simply go to the riverwoods.gov website, click on "Pay Bills", then enter your utility account number and the pin number listed on your utility bill to access your information and pay your bill.
  • Paying via Credit Card: a 3% fee remains for credit card payments and the new system has a $2.00 minimum fee.  Call the Village at 847-945-3990 to pay your bill by phone.
  • Paying via check: with zero processing fees, you can mail or drop off a check for payment at Village Hall (300 Portwine Rd) or put one in the vestibule drop box.

If you received a paper bill in the past, you will continue to receive a paper bill. Utility bills will be e-mailed to all accounts with an email address of record, regardless of whether or not a resident signed up for paperless billing.  If you haven't received a utility bill via e-mail, please contact the Village to update your email address.

All residents should have received a paper bill for the billing cycle that has just ended.  Starting with the next cycle, only residents who signed up for paper bills will be receiving them via mail.

In addition, the Village has contracted with Gewalt Hamilton Associates, Inc to process utility billing for the Village. The Village has a long term relationship with Gewalt Hamilton for the engineering side of water and sewer needs, hence this is an easy and natural transition.
