White Trillium

Native to Riverwoods, White Trillium (Liliaceae) are loved by the white-tailed deer, but do not attract many insects.

  • Ornamental Value: produces a single flower and blooms in mid to late spring. 
  • Growing Conditions: prefers light shaded areas in the spring and light to medium shade in the summer. It grows best in moist soil with loam (sand, silt and clay) and a layer of decaying leaves. It often is found in rich deciduous woodlands.
  • Mature Size: the plant is 1 1/2 to 2 feet tall. Individual leaves are up to 6 1/2 inches long and across. The flower is about 2 inches across.

 

Native Tree & Shrub Planting Cost-Share Program

To help restore the ecological health of our woodlands, residents are encouraged to plant native trees, shrubs, flowers and other plant species.  You might qualify for a Native Tree & Shrub Planting cost-share program, with the Village covering half of the cost of the plants and the planting.
